Grief, Trauma and EMDR Support under one roof
Grief counselling provides a safe and supportive space to process loss and the emotions that come with it. Trauma counselling can help you process distressing experiences, manage emotional overwhelm, and regain a stronger sense of safety and control. We also offer EMDR support where appropriate.
Welcome.
Loss changes you. Sometimes it’s a quiet ache that never quite settles. Sometimes it arrives with something harder: a shock, a memory you can’t switch off, a body that is constantly on edge.
Grief and trauma of intricately weaved together. Most traumatic experiences involve loss (loss of a sense of safety, loss of identity, loss of control), and many losses include trauma (witnessing the death of a loved one, sudden death, suicide).
The Beach Haven is unique. We are not generalists. Our counsellors are back by deep speciality training in grief and trauma and personal lived experience of both. We work together to provide wrap-around, holistic support to you during some of the most difficult times in your life.
Our grief and trauma counselling in Clarkson is for people carrying either, or both.

In order to heal, we must first be able to feel.

Does this sound like what you’re carrying?
You aren’t doing it wrong
If any of these sound familiar, you’re not doing grief or trauma wrong. There’s no timetable for healing, but counselling can help you move forward.

When grief and trauma get tangled together.
Grief is the natural response to loss.
Trauma is the response to something overwhelming or frightening.
Most grief isn’t trauma, and we don’t treat ordinary grief as a problem. But a sudden, violent or witnessed loss, or a loss that reopens an earlier wound, can bring both at once. When that happens, working on only one can leave you stuck: the sadness stays heavy, and the fear and flashbacks don’t ease. Working with both together can help.
Two Specialists. One Practice
The Beach Haven is a boutique practice that provides clients with holistic, wrap-around care for trauma and grief. Together Tracy and Elanie bring deep specialisation and lived experience.
Grief and trauma counselling can help
Death of a partner, child, parent, sibling or friend
Bereavement can turn your world inside out. Grief counselling can help you make sense of the loss and process the waves of grief that follow the loss of a loved one.
Sudden or traumatic loss
Accidents and loss through suicide come with a range of emotions, including anger and guilt. Counselling can help you work through your feelings.
Anticipatory grief
When someone you love has a life limiting illness (e.g. dementia, terminal cancer), the losses keep coming a little at a time. Support can help you manage the journey.

Trauma and PTSD
Trauma and PTSD often follow a frightening event and leave you with intrusive memories, nightmares and a feeling of being on edge. Counselling can help.
Childhood trauma
Past trauma, including childhood trauma, has a way of staying very present in your life. Trauma and EMDR counselling can help you process these memories.
Loss of a relationship
Separation, divorce and break-ups impact our self-identity and often have a lasting impact. Counselling can help you regain your self-confidence and move forward
A holistic approach
How we work with you.
Safety and pacing come first. We start by helping you feel steady, and we don’t push you to talk about anything before you’re ready. From there, depending on what you need, our work may include:
Helping you cope with the emotional, physical and cognitive effects of loss.
Helping you recover from traumatic experiences such as abuse, violence or disaster.
Helping you process distressing memories through guided eye movements.

When someone you love is dying.
Grief doesn’t wait for a death. Many people start grieving when someone receives a life-limiting diagnosis. This unique type of grief is called Anticipatory Grief, and it is an extremely challenging grief to sit with.
Support at every stage
Tracy’s unique blend of experience as a grief counselling, an end-of-life doula and working in a hospice setting, means she can support you, and your family through every stage of the end-of-life journey.
What is EMDR Therapy.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) helps your brain process distressing memories, so they lose their intensity. Learn more at the EMDR Association of Australia.
How EMDR Therapy works.
Your therapist guides you to recall traumatic memories while engaging in eye movements. This process activates the brain’s natural memory-processing system, allowing the memory to become less emotionally charged
