Hi! I'm Tracy Rattray

ACA Registered Counsellor | In-person in Joondalup | Online

I support individuals, couples, and families who are navigating relationship difficulties, disconnection, conflict, or grief and loss. My work is compassionate, and practical — helping you to make sense of what’s happening and move forward at a pace that feels right for you.

I hold a B.A. (Hons) in Psychology and a Master’s in Counselling, with specialised training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and in-depth grief counselling training under David Kessler.

Counselling Support

What It’s Like To Work With Me

A calm, non-judgemental space where we move at a pace that feels safe for you, with practical next steps to support your growth.

Whole-person support

We’ll consider you as a whole – what’s happening in your relationships, routines, values, and support system.

Calm and compassionate

I’ll help you slow things down, make sense of what you’re feeling, and have safer conversations when things feel overwhelming.

A clear plan forward

We’ll agree on a personalised approach based on your goals, with practical steps you can take between sessions.

Meet Momo - Blue-Golden British Shorthair

Meet Riggs and Momo, our resident therapy cats who call the The Beach Haven home (part time).  On days you visit in person, they may join your session if you’d like the company.

Research consistently shows that the presence of an animal can help lower anxiety, ease emotional defences, and create a sense of warmth and safety that is difficult to put into words. For many people, having a cat nearby can make it a little easier to breathe, to settle, and to open up.

If you’d prefer no cats in your session — whether due to allergies, a fear of cats, or simply personal preference — please let me know in your intake form.  The room will be thoroughly prepared before you arrive, and no further explanation is needed.

What to expect in the first session...

01.

We clarify what’s brought you in – We’ll explore what’s happening right now and how it’s affecting you.  I create space for you to share your story at a pace that feels safe for you.

02.

We identify patterns and needs – Especially in relationships, we’ll look at the cycle that keeps taking over and what each of you needs to feel safer and more supported.

03.

We agree on next steps –  We’ll shape a practical way forward, with a plan that feels manageable and meaningful.

A Compassionate Approach

“At the core of my work is the belief that every person’s experience is unique.”

My counselling is grounded in a person-centred, humanistic approach that honours your individuality and your pace. Whether you’re navigating grief, relationship strain, or family stress, I’ll help you make sense of what’s happening, identify the patterns keeping you stuck, and create steadier ways forward.

Depending on your needs, I may draw from:

  • Humanistic and Person-Centred Therapy
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Discernment Counselling
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Family Systems Therapy
  • Dignity Therapy
  • Creative Therapy
  • Grief and Trauma-informed Methods

My role is not to rush you or tell you how you should feel. It is to walk alongside you, help you make sense of what you are experiencing, and support you in finding a way forward that feels manageable and meaningful.

Experience that shapes my work

My work has been shaped by a broad range of professional and life experiences, both in Australia and internationally — and it’s taught me how to stay steady with people when life feels anything but.

I began my career over two decades ago as a trauma counsellor with the South African Police, supporting officers, victims, and families through trauma, grief, and loss. That early work deepened my understanding that healing isn’t linear — and that people need a space that feels calm, respectful, and safe when everything feels overwhelming.

Having lived and worked in 10 countries, supporting people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. This unique experience embedded my awareness of the cultural, family, and personal influences that shape relationships, identity, and emotional wellbeing, and taught me to honour cultural rituals and traditions as part of the healing process.

Today, I bring this experience to The Beach Haven, where I support individuals, couples, and families through life’s most difficult challenges.
